Synthetic turf installation offers a practical, low-maintenance solution for areas where natural grass struggles to grow or where you simply want a clean, green look year-round without the mowing.
For a successful install, the preparation is just as important as the turf itself — we excavate the site and build a solid, free-draining base of compacted cracker dust or blue metal to ensure a flat, stable surface that won't sink over time. Once the base is perfectly screeded, we lay high-quality, UV-stabilised synthetic grass, carefully joining the seams and securing the edges to create a seamless, durable finish that handles heavy foot traffic and pets with ease.
While it lacks the cooling properties of living turf, synthetic grass is an excellent choice for side passages, small courtyards, or under heavy shade where traditional varieties often fail to thrive.

Paving is more than just a hard surface to walk on. It is the structural backbone of your garden. It defines the flow of movement. It creates the platforms for living. It provides the contrast to the soft foliage of the garden. Whether it’s a heavy-duty driveway, a seamless alfresco area, or a winding garden path, the quality of the paving installation determines the longevity of the entire landscape.
The Master Grass provides expert paving installation services in Dunsborough and the South West. We understand that in our sandy soils, what happens under the pavers is just as important as the pavers themselves. We don’t cut corners on preparation. We build paved areas that stay flat, drain correctly, and look sharp for years to come.

We are often asked, “Why should I pave instead of pouring concrete?”
Flexibility
If a tree root lifts a paver, you can lift the paver, cut the root, and re-lay it. If concrete cracks, it’s cracked forever.
Access
If you need to fix a pipe or cable underneath, you can unzip the paving and zip it back up.
Aesthetics
Paving offers texture and pattern that concrete struggles to match.
Permeability
Paving allows some water to seep through the joints, recharging the groundwater, whereas concrete creates massive runoff.

Dunsborough is built on sand. While sand drains well, it shifts. If you lay pavers directly on unprepared sand, they will move. The “wheel tracks” you see in old driveways are a symptom of poor sub-base preparation. Our installation process is rigorous:
We dig out the organic topsoil. Organic matter rots and shrinks, causing sinkage. We need to get down to a stable sub-grade.
We bring in roadbase, limestone rubble, or cracker dust. We spread this to a consistent depth (usually 100mm for driveways, 75mm for foot traffic).
This is the critical step. We use heavy plate compactors to vibrate the sub-base until it is rock hard. This creates a “raft” that supports the load of cars and people. It prevents the pavers from sinking into local soft spots.
We screed a thin layer (20-30mm) of clean bedding sand over the compacted base. This allows us to level the pavers perfectly.
We supply and install a wide range of paving products to suit the Dunsborough coastal aesthetic.

Reconstituted Limestone / Liquid Limestone Pavers
A local favourite. They stay cooler underfoot in summer than dark pavers. Their creamy colour matches the beach vibe. They are durable and cost-effective.

Travertine and Natural Stone
For a high-end, resort finish. Travertine (French Pattern or rectangular) adds texture and luxury. We handle natural stone with care, using specific cutting blades and often laying on a mortar bed or adhesive for stability.

Clay Brick Pavers
The traditional choice. Extremely strong and colour-fast (they won’t fade like concrete pavers can). Great for driveways and character homes.

Large Format Concrete Pavers
Modern 600x600 or even larger slabs. They create a sleek, contemporary look. We use vacuum lifters to handle these heavy units safely and position them precisely.

Exposed Aggregate Pavers
Offering the look of poured aggregate but with the flexibility of pavers (meaning you can lift them if a pipe bursts underneath).

Drainage Falls
Water must go somewhere. We use laser levels to set the falls. We ensure water runs away from your house foundations and towards garden beds or drains. A flat paved area is a flooded paved area.
Edge Restraints
If the edge of the paving isn’t locked in, the pavers will drift apart over time (the “creeping paver” syndrome). We install concrete haunching (a hidden concrete wedge) along all open edges to lock the paving grid in place.
Pattern and Layout
The way pavers are laid affects strength and look.
Stretcher Bond: Classic, clean lines.
Herringbone: The strongest bond for driveways as it interlocks in all directions, resisting the twisting force of turning tyres.
Stack Bond: Modern grid look, often used for patios.

We highly recommend sealing, especially for natural stone or porous concrete pavers in entertaining areas (red wine spills!). We can apply high-quality penetrating sealers that protect the stone without making it slippery.
Yes. We offer a “lift and relay” service. We lift the old pavers, fix the base issues (re-compacting and adding material), and re-lay the original pavers. It’s a cost-effective way to refresh a tired driveway.
Weeds grow in the dust that settles in the gaps. We use paving sand that hardens slightly to resist weed growth. Regular sweeping and an occasional spray will keep them weed-free.

We operate from Dunsborough and work across the South West—Busselton through to Margaret River, including Yallingup and Cowaramup. If you're outside that core (Dunsborough East, Siesta Park, Metricup), send your location and we'll check the drive.
